From "my" Major .................................... ;-)

When Maj. Brian Dennis of the United States Marine Corps met a wild stray dog with shorn ears while serving in Iraq, he had no idea of the bond they would form, leading to seismic changes in both their lives. "The general theme of the story of Nubs is that if you're kind to someone, they'll never forget you -- whether it be person or animal," Dennis tells Paw Nation.

In October 2007, Dennis and his team of 11 men were in Iraq patrolling the Syrian border. One day, as his team arrived at a border fort, they encountered a pack of stray dogs -- not uncommon in the barren, rocky desert that was home to wolves and wild dogs.

"We all got out of the Humvee and I started working when this dog came running up," recalls Dennis. "I said, 'Hey buddy' and bent down to pet him." Dennis noticed the dog's ears had been cut. "I said, 'You got little nubs for ears.'" The name stuck. The dog whose ears had been shorn off as a puppy by an Iraqi soldier (to make the dog "look tougher," Dennis says) became known as Nubs.

Dennis fed Nubs scraps from his field rations, including bits of ham and frosted strawberry Pop Tarts. "I didn't think he'd eat the Pop Tart, but he did," says Dennis.

At night, Nubs accompanied the men on night patrols. "I'd get up in the middle of the night to walk the perimeter with my weapon and Nubs would get up and walk next to me like he was doing guard duty," says Dennis.
The next day, Dennis said goodbye to Nubs, but he didn't forget about the dog. He began mentioning Nubs in emails he wrote to friends and family back home. "I found a dog in the desert," Dennis wrote in an email in October 2007. "I call him Nubs. We clicked right away. He flips on his back and makes me rub his stomach."

"Every couple of weeks, we'd go back to the border fort and I'd see Nubs every time," says Dennis. "Each time, he followed us around a little more." And every time the men rumbled away in their Humvees, Nubs would run after them. "We're going forty miles an hour and he'd be right next to the Humvee," says Dennis. "He's a crazy fast dog. Eventually, he'd wear out, fall behind and disappear in the dust."

On one trip to the border fort in December 2007, Dennis found Nubs was badly wounded in his left side where he'd been stabbed with a screwdriver. "The wound was infected and full of pus," Dennis recalls. "We pulled out our battle kits and poured antiseptic on his wound and force fed him some antibiotics wrapped in peanut butter." That night, Nubs was in so much pain that he refused food and water and slept standing up because he couldn't lay down. Dennis and his team left again the next day, but Dennis thought about Nubs the entire time, hoping the dog was still alive.

Two weeks later, when Dennis and his team returned, he found Nubs alive and well. "I had patched him up and that seemed to be a turning point in how he viewed me," says Dennis. This time, when Dennis and his team left the fort, Nubs followed. Though the dog lost sight of the Humvees, he never gave up. For two days, Nubs endured freezing temperatures and packs of wild dogs and wolves, eventually finding his way to Dennis at a camp an incredible 70 miles south near the Jordanian border.

"There he was, all beaten and chewed up," says Dennis. "I knew immediately that Nubs had crossed through several dog territories and fought and ran, and fought and ran," says Dennis. The dog jumped on Dennis, licking his face.

Most of the 80 men at the camp welcomed Nubs, even building him a doghouse. But a couple of soldiers complained, leading Dennis' superiors to order him to get rid of the dog. With his hand forced, Dennis decided that the only thing to do was bring Nubs to America. He began coordinating Nubs' rescue effort. Friends and family in the States helped, raising the $5,000 it would cost to transport Nubs overseas.

Finally, it was all arranged. Nubs was handed over to volunteers in Jordan, who looked after the dog and sent him onto to Chicago, then San Diego, where Dennis' friends waited to pick him up. Nubs lived with Dennis' friends and began getting trained by local dog trainer Graham Bloem of the Snug Pet Resort. "I focused on basic obedience and socializing him with dogs, people and the environment," says Bloem.

A month later, Dennis finished his deployment in Iraq and returned home to San Diego, where he immediately boarded a bus to Camp Pendleton to be reunited with Nubs. "I was worried he wouldn't remember me," says Dennis. But he needn't have worried. "Nubs went crazy," recalls Dennis. "He was jumping up on me, licking my head."

Dennis' experience with Nubs led to a children's picture book, called "Nubs: The True Story of a Mutt, a Marine & a Miracle," published by Little, Brown for Young Readers. They have appeared on the Today Show and will be appearing on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien on Monday.

Was it destiny that Dennis met Nubs and brought him to America? "I don't know about that," says Dennis. "It's been a strange phenomenon. It's been a blessing. I get drawings mailed to me that children have drawn of Nubs with his ears cut off. It makes me laugh."

Since tomorrow is the feast of St. Crispin ........................

I wanted to post this - to all my brothers- and sisters-in-arms, under whatever flag, who fights tyranny and fascism, Semper Fi' and hand salute!

What's he that wishes so?
My cousin Westmoreland? No, my fair cousin;
If we are mark'd to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires.
But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England.
God's peace! I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more methinks would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is call'd the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian.'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say 'These wounds I had on Crispian's day.'
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words-
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester-
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

National Park Service’s New “Dawn”: Propagandizing Pseudo-Science and “Civil Rights,” Pandering to Blacks and Hispanics, and Deliberately Alienating Whites

Posted By Nicholas Stix On 15 October 2009 @ 5:00 In General | Comments Disabled

Two million Americans per year visit Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania, where the bloodiest battle of the Civil War was fought in 1863, in order to learn about the “Civil Rights” movement, right? And the most important scientific knowledge for the park rangers responsible for California’s Sequoia National Park is “climate change,” right?

The National Park Service has a new director, Jon Jarvis, a new direction and, as breathlessly regurgitated by L.A. Times “reporter,” Julie Cart, new talking points. It is being Obamatized.

Millions of overwhelmingly white Americans visit our national parks every year, two million at Gettysburg alone, where in America’s bloodiest conflict, Union and Confederate forces suffered a combined 48,000-51,000 casualties. They visit to “get away from it all”, to get in touch with the real America, down to her rocks and soil, and to hear mystic chords of memory.

“It” is non-stop urbanization and sprawl, due to our elites’ illegal, nation-killing open borders policy. “It” is black and Hispanic racism, crime, and violence. “It” is the obscene blaring of rap, and the sound of Spanish—and bad Spanish, at that. “It” is diversity training 24/7, at work and even while watching TV at home.

Jon Jarvis sees his mission as bringing “it” to our nation’s parks, which are almost entirely paid for by her white citizens, implanting “it” there, and cutting those chords. He is doing everything possible to pander to hostile blacks and Hispanics, even in Spanish, and to make white Americans’ visits as unpleasant as possible. His park rangers promote the pseudo-science of “climate change” (PDF; formerly known as “global warming”), and at Gettysburg, rant about not only slavery, but the so-called civil rights movement, which would only arise 90 years after the battle was fought.

The Park Service has shut down its Gettysburg Web page—for ideological redesign, perchance?—but its cache can momentarily still be viewed here.

“‘I’m not the least bit afraid of controversy in the work that we do,’ Jarvis said. ‘We’re pretty good at this. It’s our job to tell the story and without embellishment [!], to tell it as truthfully as possible [!]. Based on the historical side, scholarly work; and on the natural side, scientific work. That’s going to be the basis for our interpretation and we shouldn’t shy away from it.

One change Jarvis says he’ll institute is to put park rangers back in classrooms. When Gale Norton was Interior secretary, she stopped that long tradition, saying it represented “mission creep.”
Rangers’ storytelling — called “interpretation” in the park service — will also shift. Jarvis said that rangers at Civil War battlefields now spend less time telling visitors where the Confederate and Union armies lined up for Pickett’s charge and more time discussing slavery and civil rights. Those issues are more relevant to today’s society, he said. [NS—which society is he talking about; the one that exists, or the one he’s trying to replace it with?]
The role of the parks, Jarvis said, is to continue to tell the American story. He said that a group of military lawyers recently toured historic Japanese internment camps, to try to get a look at ‘how the current internment of American citizens will appear in history,’ he said.” [By “current internment of American citizens,” who is he talking about? Terrorists? Illegal aliens? Black felons?]

[New park service chief sees 'convergence' by Julie Cart, Los Angeles Times, October 5, 2009.]

Why in heck would a family go to the expense and trouble to spend their vacation driving to and from Gettysburg, if the rangers refuse to talk about Gettysburg? How is Gettysburg irrelevant to Gettysburg? And why should the predominantly white taxpayers support a racist, anti-American National Park Service?

To paraphrase Nathan Glazer, the Park Service has gone from doing what government does well—protecting and maintaining our natural, national treasures and history—to turning into two-bit demagogues and pseudo-scientists, while surrendering our parks to Mexican narcoterrorists, who have turned huge swathes of them into illegal marijuana farms that are ecological disaster zones ruled by heavily armed, illegal alien gang-bangers.

But Julie Cart’s only mention of arms was regarding Jarvis’ concern over American citizens legally bearing loaded arms in the parks, as per a new law. She and Jarvis showed similar concern over the “problem” of Evangelical Christians having non-Darwinian interpretations of the age of the Grand Canyon. Now, those are clearly dangerous people!

if the dithering by the White House regarding potential increases/decreases in troop strength in Afghanistan isn't a calculated effort - if 'they' wait long enough, it ends in abject failure that can {once again} be laid on Bush.  If 'their' indecisiveness somehow  achieves victory, 'they' will claim all glory.  Nevermind the American  lives that are and will be lost, or the injuries sustained by OUR military members .................................. it's a win-win for the gutless wonders ........................................

My apologies, to those folks I asked to contact me @ my

I recently contacted friends through their blogs, asking that they contact me at MY gmail address - imagine my humiliation, when one of them was SPAMMED by YOUR hijacking of MY gmail address?

I signed up to see some of your offerings - I NEVER PAID YOU A CENT, NOR GAVE YOU PERMISSION TO USE my account, so wouldn't THAT have indicated that I wasn't going to be one of your peons?

You will remove my gmail address from your database IMMEDIATELY! I will NOT have my friends hassled by you or your ilk.

Not only "No", but "HELL, NO!"

There's a "bill"
currently in committee in the House of Representatives; while my heart aches for Blair Holt's family, penalizing the law-abiding is NOT the answer.

Official Summary
1/6/2009--Introduced.
Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 - Amends the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act to prohibit a person from possessing a firearm unless that person has been issued a firearm license under this Act or a state system certified under this Act and such license has not been invalidated or revoked. Prescribes license application, issuance, and renewal requirements.
Prohibits transferring or receiving a qualifying firearm unless the recipient presents a valid firearms license, the license is verified, and the dealer records a tracking authorization number. Prescribes firearms transfer reporting and record keeping requirements. Directs the Attorney General to establish and maintain a federal record of sale system.
Prohibits:
(1) transferring a firearm to any person other than a licensee, unless the transfer is processed through a licensed dealer in accordance with national instant criminal background check system requirements, with exceptions;
(2) a licensed manufacturer or dealer from failing to comply with reporting and record keeping requirements of this Act;
(3) failing to report the loss or theft of the firearm to the Attorney General within 72 hours;
(4) failing to report to the Attorney General an address change within 60 days; or
(5) keeping a loaded firearm, or an unloaded firearm and ammunition for the firearm, knowingly or recklessly disregarding the risk that a child is capable of gaining access, if a child uses the firearm and causes death or serious bodily injury.
Prescribes criminal penalties for violations of firearms provisions covered by this Act.
Directs the Attorney General to:
(1) establish and maintain a firearm injury information clearinghouse;
(2) conduct continuing studies and investigations of firearm-related deaths and injuries; and
(3) collect and maintain current production and sales figures of each licensed manufacturer.
Authorizes the Attorney General to certify state firearm licensing or record of sale systems.

From a post by KG, of Crusader Rabbit ..............................

"For as long as I could remember I'd wanted to be somewhere else, laying in bed late at night listening to the sound of the trucks ..........................."

We're currently living in a rural area NNE of Houston, TX. Despite it's cosmopolitan affectations, the Houston area tends to be rather ....................... parochial. The vast majority of people I deal with on a daily basis in my job as a convenience store clerk were born within 50 miles; their ambition is to live out their lives & die here. They know each other from birth to the grave - they watch each other's children grow up. And I can appreciate that this is what these folks want - but it's not for me. I grew up the eldest child of a career U.S. Marine officer - from a VERY young age, I answered the phone "Captain P*****'s residence, Mary speaking, how may I help you?". My earliest memories are of traveling by air solo, at age 3 & 4 {the flight attendants were ALWAYS very kind to me, and I treasured the 'wings' they gave me}, between Washington, DC, to San Antonio, TX, where I stayed with my paternal grandparents for a year, then to San Diego, CA, to be reunited with my parents.

We moved every couple of years for my Dad's career; my parents made it an adventure, new people/places. I visited both Canada & Mexico. I didn't go through the 'but I want to STAY here' garbage too much until I was in my late teens. Even then, it was a rather minimal desire - there were NEW people/places to see.

As an adult, I moved every couple of years {actually, 'couple of years' was a LONG stretch for me to stay in one place ;-) }. In '95, I went to Morocco for a week, where I came to appreciate the Berber/Bedouin tribes; in Oualidiya, we met a young tribesman who had come into the city to sell the jewelry they made, whenever they stopped in the desert - the young man was so pleasant, I wanted to bring him back with me, & give him the opportunities America had to offer.

At age 42, I moved from Scranton, PA, to Houston, TX, to marry the FodGuy; we'll celebrate our 10th anniversary the day after Thanksgiving. We moved the May after our marriage to Mexico for 2.5 years; then we moved back up here. He went to the Czech Republic for what was supposed to be 6 months & wound up being 2 years; I was able to visit several times, which is when I fell madly in love with Austria in particular, and Europe in general.

Between my parents' influence, my own experiences, and the Sagittarian trait of wearing rose-colored glasses, I pretty much view 'going/moving to new places' as being WONDERFUL; as Finian told his daughter, 'the hill beyond yon hill' will have the proverbial pot of gold ..........................

Of course, there's also the appeal of shaking the dust of disappointment {NOTE: NOT disappointment in my immediate family - disappointment in people/situations outside OUR family} - "Mud can make you prisoner and the plains can bake you dry. Snow can burn your eyes, but only people make you cry. Home is made for coming from, for dreams of going to, which with any luck will never come true."

Lee Marvin was a WWII U. S. Marine - in a documentary about the Pacific theater, he used a quote that EVERY Marine learns - "And when I get to heaven, St. Peter I will tell - 'Another Marine reporting, Sir; I've served my time in Hell'"

I dunno, I'm just READY for our next adventure; I receive weird looks/insulted comments from folks 'round here, because I don't want to stay here forever ......................... but I've gotta keep lookin' for the rainbow ......................... ;-)

Disaster, we’ll still love you and exclaim,
“Give Bush the blame!”

…To those few extremists clinging to the faith of your upbringing,
Hey, you need a new religion,
Come and be a happy pigeon
In our flock,
The Great Assembly of Barack,
The God of Talk.

…Please don’t call him the Messiah,
He is actually much higher,
He’s humanity perfected,
Che Guevera resurrected,
He’s so swell,
I’d gladly follow him to hell,
Just like Michelle…

Sotomayor nomination ....................... ummmmm, perhaps the Tan Klan et al should look to their own "tribal politics" - there was a Hispanic firefighter who was one of the plaintiffs in the case that bears Ricci's name, yet nary a peep of outrage evinced toward him ......................... one of the BEST comments on the case was on the Comments section of the article: "Sotomayor voted to deny a white man something she would have voted to give a black man." If THAT decision wasn't racist, NOTHING can be construed as racist ........................

Well, the official autopsy report is that Michael Jackson died of food poisoning. He was eating 10 yr old wieners.

From my Colonel ................................................

Monday morning I attended a breakfast meeting where the speaker/guest was David E. Cole, Chairman, Center for Automotive Research (CAR) and Professor at the Univ. of Michigan. You have all likely heard CAR quoted, or referred to in the auto industry news lately.

Mr. Cole, who is an engineer by training, told many stories of the difficulty of working with the folks that the Obama administration has sent to save the auto industry. There have been many meetings where a 30+ year experience automotive expert has to listen to a newcomer to the industry, someone with zero manufacturing experience, zero auto industry experience, zero business experience, zero finance experience, and zero engineering experience, tell them how to run their business.

Mr. Cole's favorite story is as follows:

There was a team of Obama people speaking to Mr. Cole (Engineer, automotive experience 40+ years, Chairman of CAR). They were explaining to Mr. Cole that the auto companies needed to make a car that was electric and liquid natural gas (LNG) with enough combined fuel to go 500 miles so we wouldn't "need" so many gas stations (A whole other topic). They were quoting BTU's of LNG and battery life that they had looked up on some website.

Mr. Cole explained that to do this you would need a trunk FULL of batteries and a LNG tank as big as a car to make that happen and that there were problems related to the laws of physics that prevented them from.......

The Obama person interrupted and said (and I am quoting here) "These laws of physics? Who's rules are those? We need to change that. (Some of the others wrote down the law name so they could look it up.) We have the Congress and the Administration. We can repeal that law, amend it, or use an executive order to get rid of that problem. That's why we are here, to fix these sort of issues".

And these folks are "in charge"????? Gawd help us all ....................

'Way back in 1977, .....................................

I was sent to NAS Memphis for school, immediately after boot camp leave. Initially, I was to attend Air Traffic Control school, but due to too much "fun", didn't hit the books as I should have done. There was talk of transferring me to Motor-T school {for repair of trucks/jeeps/etc.}, but angels smiled on me, and I was offered the opportunity to stay in Memphis, and attend Aviation Electrician {AE} school. I was told, by a Reservist Aviation officer, that I was the first woman in the Marine Corps to attend that school.

Nice thing about AE school, I picked up the theory quickly, so was able to still maintain a rather active social life. In addition to the base Enlisted Club {fondly known as "The Animal Pit"}, there were a LOT of places in Memphis proper - a favorite hangout was Earl's, a little bring-your-own-bottle honkytonk; they had a GREAT house band, The Miller Brothers.

I had been hearing about a "new" Sergeant who was in charge of one of the men's barracks {"Pssst! Did you SEE who Sgt. L******* was with the other night?"}, but didn't 'meet' him until one night at Earl's. He was intimidating - tall {6'2"}, with THE broadest shoulders & tiniest waist & hips I'd ever seen on a man. He had just concluded a tour as a Drill Instructor, so had that deadpan expression down pat, you know the one that makes you want to take ALL responsibility for ALL the woes of the world. One night, though, there was a problem with my ride back to the base {my ride had 'another offer' ;-) }, so Sgt. L. gave me a ride back. To paraphrase Bogie, it was the beginning of a beautiful friendship ..................................

We would meet up at Earl's, or see each other around the base. For my 21st birthday, my mother had sent the funds for my senior troop handler, a Gunnery Sergeant, to get a birthday cake for me - Sgt. L. was there, along with some other Marines, to watch me blow out the candles on my {maple-sugar Marine Corps emblem-decorated} cake. There's a picture somewhere out there of me blowing out the candles.

So, school progressed, I graduated, & received my orders - to "The Pit" {MCAS Cherry Point, NC} - Sgt. L. was returning to MCAS{H} New River, NC, at the same time - he offered me a ride to The Pit. Of course, at the time, I couldn't help with the driving, as I didn't drive standard. We arrived @ The Pit, Sgt. L. dropped me off at the temporary women Marines' barracks {the REASON it was called "The Pit", I'm sure}. I had NEVER seen such a depressing living area, until I stayed in the transient women's barracks @ NAS Dallas. Sgt. L. suggested I request New River { I think he wanted to keep an eye on me! ;-) He was the big brother I'd always wanted}; I did, & was approved. So, we ditty-bopped on down to New River, where I was the first woman in my squadron {HMH-362, the Ugly Angels}. We didn't "hang" as much - he was busy with his duties, and I was busy learning all about the electrical systems of CH-53 heliccopters. But, one day, he walked in to my shop - I was sitting on the couch, kibbitzing with my co-workers - I looked up & noticed he had 'rockers' on his sergeant's chevrons - he had been selected & promoted to Staff Sergeant. I jumped up & threw my arms around his neck, I was so HAPPY for him. After he left, my fellow Marines were goggle-eyed, asking me WHO that was - I told'em "my big brother" - I was informed that I should NEVER expect any of my "buds" to ask me out on a serious date, as they were afraid of running afoul of him.

My OJT & training completed, I headed up to HMH-772, at NAS Willow Grove, just outside Philadelphia, and 'life' took over .......................................... I had The Wonderful Progeny {TWP} in early October, 1980 ....................... her sperm donor {13 years older than me} decided he couldn't "take the responsibility", so took a powder a year later. The TWP & I moved to the Reading area to be closer to my parents, for the familial support, I held various jobs {I like to say if a job is legal, I've probably held it, or something close enough to transfer any "skills sets" ;-) }; TWP was accepted in The Milton Hershey School. She graduated in 1999.

In June of '99, I was more contemplative than usual, and longing for friends of my youth; by the end of the month, I had assembled postcards & printed up the message - the REASON I used postcards was that, if he was married or otherwise "involved", I didn't want to create unnecessary problems - I wasn't looking for a lover or husband, I was looking for my friend. I mailed the 19 postcards from Scranton, PA, to every "Michael L*******" who's snailmail address I'd been able to locate via the 'Net, on 1 July. Being the perennially trusting, optimistic Sagittarian that I am, of course I included not only my phone number, but my street address. {Luckily, there were apparently no sociopathic "Michael L*******s" who received the postcards. ;-) }

On 6 July, I received a phone call - as soon as I heard his voice, I knew it was "my" Mike. He was living in the Houston area, just back from a 6 month work assignment in Scotland. He was a bachelor, with his 4 cats & fish. We talked - yes, there were several YEARS we hadn't been in touch, so there was all that to 'catch up' on. We talked every day; one day, when I couldn't reach him, either at home or work - turned out, he was home sick from work, and couldn't hear the telephone.

He invited me down for a visit at the end of July/beginning of August - he paid for my plane ticket, so I hied myself down to Philadelphia & flew on down - as Bayou Renaissance Man's friend, Miss D., can attest, unless one is arriving from a jungle swamp, one is never prepared for arrival in Houston. My flight was early, so I went looking for an outside area to have a smoke. I had him paged, and when he came through the doors, it was a reprise of when he made SSgt. - I ran up & threw my arms around his neck.

We had a GOOD time, that 4 days - initially, he was a little concerned when we ordered adult beverages, since my beverage of choice was Johnny Walker Black Label & water {he figured I would be HIGH maintenance}, but relaxed when he realized that, while I may drink 'expensive', I don't drink a lot ................................. ;-)

I didn't want to leave; but, I had to get back to MY 2 cats & lovebird - the night I returned to Scranton, when I called to let him know I was safely home, he told me he loved me. Ten days later, in our conversation, I was regaling him with the story of my great-grandmother, who came to the U.S. from Czechoslovakia to avoid an arranged marriage - he asked me what I thought about marriage; I said it's OK for others, but I didn't figure I would ever get married. He then proposed - after about 20 minutes of my 'duh-duh-duh-ing', I said yes.

So, 10 years {2.5 years for us in Mexico, then 2 years for him in the Czech Republic} later, here we are .....................................

So often as I wait for sleep,
I find myself reciting
The words I said or should have said,
Like scenes that need re-writing.
The smiles I never answered,
Doors perhaps I should have opened
Songs forgotten in the morning.
I relive the roles I've played,
The tears I may have squandered.
The many pipers I have paid
Along the roads I've wandered.
Yet all the time I knew it,
Love was somewhere out there waiting,
Though I may regret a kiss or two.
If I had changed a single day,
What went amiss or went astray
I may have never found my way to you.
I wouldn't change a thing that happened
On my way to you.

From Michelle Malkin .......................................................

1776: A letter from husband to wife
By Michelle Malkin • July 3, 2009 11:28 AM

On this day 233 years ago, John Adams wrote to his wife Abigail on the declaration of independence of the United States of America:

I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.

You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. — I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. — Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph in that Days Transaction, even altho We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not.

Processes, Birth Certificates, Referenda, And The Rule Of Law
By The Curmudgeon Emeritus

Imagine along with your Curmudgeon for a few moments.

Imagine that it were discovered, incontrovertibly, that Barack Hussein Obama really was born in Kenya, rather than in Hawaii as he alleges. Imagine further that Obama would refuse, even after the discovery was publicized and proved beyond the shadow of a doubt, to relinquish the presidency. Imagine still further that he offers as justification his having won the 2008 presidential election. Would you support or oppose his claim to the authority of the presidency?

You'd oppose it. Of course you would! The qualifications for the presidency, slender as they are, are spelled out explicitly in the Constitution of the United States: Article 2, Section 1, paragraph 4. If Obama cannot satisfy the Supreme Court that he was born in the United States, he cannot hold the presidency, any more than Arnold Schwarzenegger could.

Yet Obama has refused to present a legitimate birth certificate to public scrutiny, despite numerous attempts to get him to do so. The reasons aren't far to seek...but so far, the Supreme Court has failed to act on its duty to compel him to satisfy the constitutional requirements for the highest executive position in the land.

Imagine a bit further: that Obama were to win re-election in 2012, and were then to stand for a third term in 2016. The Constitution, in its 22nd Amendment, forbids exactly that. But Obama could trot out any of a number of rationalizations, including "this ongoing crisis," or his "unprecedented popularity," or whatever your fevered imagination might produce. Would you regard any such justification as adequate to set aside the 22nd Amendment?

No, of course you wouldn't! The Constitution is the Supreme Law of the Land, and cannot be altered save by the procedures set forth therein. For Obama to stand for a third term in defiance of the 22nd Amendment's two-term limitation would constitute a coup against the Constitution itself. Impeachment, trial, and conviction be damned; that would be a hangin' offense.

Here's a lamb* who's made his way home ..................................

Friends mourn Milwaukie fighter pilot who served in three wars
by Rick Bella, The Oregonian
Saturday June 27, 2009, 10:00 AM

CLACKAMAS -- They came by ones and twos Friday, quietly slipping into the pews at New Hope Community Church. They smiled at the words honoring a man whose faith made him an inspiration and whose exploits in three wars made him a hero.

And when the last mournful drone of the bagpipes faded, they said goodbye to Col. Kenneth L. Reusser of Milwaukie, the most decorated U.S. Marine Corps aviator in history.

"He was the finest gentleman I've ever met," said Harley Wedel of Fairview, a fellow Korean War veteran. "I'm really going to miss him."

Reusser flew an amazing 253 combat missions in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was shot down in all three wars -- five times in all. He earned two Navy Crosses, four Purple Hearts and two Legions of Merit among his 59 medals.

In 1945, while based in Okinawa, he stripped down his F4U-4 Corsair fighter and intercepted a Japanese observation plane at an altitude much higher than usual. When his guns froze, he flew his fighter into the observation plane, hacking off its tail with his propeller.

In 1950, while serving in the storied "Black Sheep Squadron," he led an attack on a North Korean tank-repair facility at Inchon, then destroyed an oil tanker -- almost blowing himself out of the sky in the process.

During the Vietnam War, Reusser flew helicopters. He was leading a Marine Air Group in a rescue mission, when his own "Huey" was shot down. He needed skin grafts over 35 percent of his badly burned body.

Reusser was born Jan. 27, 1920, the son of a Cloverdale minister. While still a teenager, he became a committed Christian, which remained a big part of his life.

Reusser lived a "Tom Sawyer-ish" existence, Wedel said, jumping off a barn roof to test a parachute, racing motorcycles to help pay for college and earning a pilot's license before WWII broke out.

After retiring from the Marine Corps, he worked for Lockheed Aircraft and the Piasecki Helicopter Corp.

In recent years, he remained active in veterans groups.

"He had a great sense of humor," said friend Jesse Lott of Milwaukie. "One time, when the great Gen. Chuck Yeager was visiting, we told him about Ken's war record. Yeager just sniffed that he never saw any Marines in Europe.

"Well, when Ken arrived, we told him what Yeager had said," Lott said. "So Ken said, 'Well, if we had been there, it wouldn't have taken you so long to win the war.' Even Yeager laughed."

Reusser, who died June 20 of natural causes at 89, is survived by his wife, Trudy; and sons, Richard C. and Kenneth L. Jr. Interment was in Willamette National Cemetery.

Thank you, Mr. Pritchett!!

The author, Lou Pritchett, is a well-known public speaker who retired after a successful 36-year career as the VP World Sales for Proctor and Gamble.

Lou Pritchett is one of corporate America 's true living legends- an acclaimed author, dynamic teacher and one of the world's highest rated speakers. Successful corporate executives everywhere recognize him as the foremost leader in change management. Lou changed the way America does business by creating an audacious concept that came to be known as "partnering." Pritchett rose from soap salesman to Vice-President, Sales and Customer Development for Procter and Gamble and over the course of 36 years, made corporate history.

AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA
Dear President Obama:

You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived and unlike any of the others, you truly scare me.

You scare me because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you.

You scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support.

You scare me because you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America and culturally you are not an American.

You scare me because you have never run a company or met a payroll.

You scare me because you have never had military experience, thus don't understand it at its core.

You scare me because you lack humility and 'class', always blaming others.

You scare me because for over half your life you have aligned yourself with radical extremists who hate America and you refuse to publicly denounce these radicals who wish to see America fail.

You scare me because you are a cheerleader for the 'blame America' crowd and deliver this message abroad.

You scare me because you want to change America to a European style country where the government sector dominates instead of the private sector.

You scare me because you want to replace our health care system with a government controlled one.

You scare me because you prefer 'wind mills' to responsibly capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale reserves.

You scare me because you want to kill the American capitalist goose that lays the golden egg which provides the highest standard of living in the world.

You scare me because you have begun to use 'extortion' tactics against certain banks and corporations.

You scare me because your own political party shrinks from challenging you on your wild and irresponsible spending proposals.

You scare me because you will not openly listen to or even consider opposing points of view from intelligent people.

You scare me because you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient.

You scare me because the media gives you a free pass on everything you do.

You scare me because you demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O'Relllys and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of view.

You scare me because you prefer controlling over governing.

Finally, you scare me because if you serve a second term I will probably not feel safe in writing a similar letter in 8 years.

Lou Pritchett

;-) I'll let Chely Wright say it ................................

.

Now, I'm NOT a big country music fan - but sometimes, they just get it RIGHT!!

.

The Bumper Of My SUV
Chely Wright

I've got a bright red sticker on the back of my car
Says United States Marines
And yesterday a lady in a mini-van held up a middle finger at me
Does she think she knows what I stand for
Or the things that I believe
Just by looking at a sticker for the US Marines
On The Bumper Of My SUV

See, my brother Chris, he's been in for more than 14 years now
Our dad was in the Navy during Vietnam
Did his duty then he got out
And my grandpa earned his purple heart
On the beach of Normandy
That's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines
On The Bumper Of SUV

But that doesn't mean that I want war
I'm not Republican or Democrat
But I've gone all around this crazy world
Just to try and better understand

Yes I do have questions
I get to ask them because I'm free
That's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines
On the Bumper Of My SUV

Cause I've been to Hiroshima
And I've been to the DMZ
I've walked on the sand in Baghdad
Still don't have all of the answers I need
But I guess I wanna know where she's been
Before she judges and gestures to me
Cause she don't like my sticker
For the US Marines
On the bumper of my SUV

So I hope that lady in her mini-van
Turns on her radio and hears this from me
As she picks up her kids from their private school
And drives home safely on our city streets
Or to the building where her church group meets

Yeah, that's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines
On the bumper of my SUV

Outrage of the day from D.C., ......................................

Our military, in their centuries of existence, have developed some traditions ....................... one of which is the carrying of swords by non-commissioned officers, warrant officers, and commissioned officers - it's a pretty damned sad state of affairs that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces is SO paranoid that these young Naval & Marine Corps officers are denied what they, each and every blessed one of them, has EARNED.

Swordless Sailors

And please, before I'm accused of "belligerence" - WHO among the higher-ups in the West Wing/Executive Office Building EVER served this nation in uniform?

As Tevye and his community in Anatevka knew, traditions are GOOD .............................

{And no, I'm not Jewish - but my great-grandparents came to this country (LEGALLY) from Middle Europe, where they lived much like the Jews of Anatevka - and appreciated their traditions ...................)

Just took a test yesterday ........................

turns out, I have ADD - next step is getting my doc to refer me to someone to do the official diagnostics, then see what's what as far as therapy {medication vs. "talking"} - I scored 94 out of 100 on the test ...................... :-( Some of the questions seemed to have nothing to do with what I thought were the constellation of symptoms, like irritability at petty stuff .........................

One of the things currently irritating me is NBC's choice of Conan O'Brien to take over The Tonight Show - never been much of a viewer, but I will NEVER watch it now - far as I'm concerned, Conan O'Brien would gag an army of maggots - he's of the same ilk as Will Ferrell or Jim Carrey, in most of his roles ............................

I'm hoping the medication of choice would be Adderall XR - as I said above, it's gonna be a matter of primary care doc to diagnostician {whether a psychiatrist or psychologist is still undetermined} - if it's a psychologist, of course, I'll then have to see someone else, who can prescribe ......................... :-(

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old rancher, who's hand was caught in the gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his bid to be our president.

The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Obama is a 'Post Turtle''..
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him, what a 'post turtle' was.

The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle'.

The old rancher saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face so he continued to explain. 'You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, and you just wonder what kind of dumb ass put him up there to begin with'.

From Denmark, via friends in Colorado .......................................... ;-)

A far more
accurate account of the events of that fateful
morning....

Baby
bear goes downstairs, sits in his small chair at the table.
He looks
into his small bowl. It is empty. 'Who's been eating
my

porridge?'
he squeaks.

Daddy
Bear arrives at the big table and sits in his big chair. He looks into his
big bowl and it is also empty. 'Who's been eating my porridge?!?' he
roars.

Mummy
Bear puts her head through the serving hatch from the kitchen and yells,
'For God's sake, how many times do I have to go through this with you
idiots? It was Mummy Bear who got up first. It was Mummy Bear who woke
everyone in the house. It was Mummy Bear who made the coffee. It was Mummy
Bear who unloaded the dishwasher from last night and put everything away.
It was Mummy Bear who swept the floor in the kitchen. It was Mummy Bear
who went out in the cold early morning air to fetch The newspaper and
croissants. It was Mummy Bear who set the damn
table.

'It
was Mummy Bear who walked the bloody dog, cleaned the cat's litter tray,
gave them their food, and refilled their water.

'And
now that you've decided to drag your sorry bear-asses downstairs and grace
Mummy Bear with your grumpy presence, listen carefully, because I'm only
going to say this once....

HAVEN'T MADE THE F***ING PORRIDGE

From Political Castaway Blog .................................

Mexico: Have We Had Enough Now, America?

How much more damage does America’s little neighbor to the south need to do before Americans decide that the status quo relationship is plainly untenable?

As the most recent export from Mexico—Swine Flu—now spreads across America and the rest of the world at a lightening pace, threatening lives, businesses, schools, and anything else in its path, Americans should be asking themselves if this should not be the final straw that breaks the back of the politically-correct cultural receivership that Americans have been burdened with for decades now.

'Specially for KG & Gecko of Crusader Rabbit ...........................

Ginger cats are SPECIAL!

And so was Louis Armstrong, God rest his soul ..................... we were living in California, back in the early 60's; my Dad was an active duty Marine officer, my Mom was pregnant with my brother - we would go to the PX on a regular basis - one of the highlights of ANY visit to the Exchange was Mr. Goodloe, who always reminded me of Satchmo - a gentleman of color, who plied his trade as a shoeshine man, in the entry of the PX - Mr. Goodloe LIKED me - and I liked him - so much that, when we got near, I'd run ahead to hug him - my Dad's mom came for a visit after the birth of my brother - bear in mind, she'd been born in 1906 - one of her brothers was a member of the KKK, before something happened & he was confined to a wheelchair {karma, anyone?} - ANYhoo, my Mom thought my grandmother was going to faint dead away, when her towheaded little granddaughter went running up to a {GASP!} black man and threw her arms around his neck ......................... funny, the generational differences ..........................

From a friend .................................

Please view this video to help this former Marine and Police Officer!!!

I would like to invite anyone who can to view the video in the hypertext link below. You may remember the story of the Cincinnati Policeman (Sgt. Bryce Bezdek) who was critically injured while deploying stop-stix to try to end a high speed pursuit about 2 years ago and his miraculous recovery against all the odds.

His wife has made a video about his journey and entered it in a contest for a trip to Disney World. By hitting the hypertext and viewing the video you have voted for him. This can be done once every day until the 20th. Be careful when you watch the video-I still need Kleenex.

Thanks.

Here's the link: The link appears to be going to the domain modernmom., but is really going to the domain modernmom.com.

You may have to copy this and paste it into your browser……

PS If you are moved by the video please continue to pass it to others

who might be willing to vote.

Of course, what American Tea Party would be

worth a damn without John & Abigail Adams?

AND, some words "we" need to remind ourselves of ........................

.

I'm getting in a Tea Party mood .........................................

there's too much "change" being foisted on Americans too quickly - we've been suffering 'creeping incrementalism' for too long - a LOT of us are no longer sure how to go about making the "changes" that WE DECIDE are best for us - but we're by-God going to learn ......................

In this segment, Adams is asking the Secretary of the Congress who HE stands with, Adams or Dickinson {Dickinson was a Pennsylvania representative, who felt the fight for independence was treason; he could not bring himself to sign the Declaration of Independence, so left the Continental Congress and joined the American army.}

Here, a montage of scenes from 1776, with the Beatles' Revolution

Thank heaven for Darvocet ..................................

{though after some review, when I change primary care docs, NO MORE meds that have acetaminophen as a component - there's entirely TOO MUCH of the stuff in TOO MANY different compounds - I was told last spring I have "cysts" on my liver - don't know that acetaminophen is a cause, but it ISN'T good for livers, long-term}

Had post-surg appointments with both surgeons this week - both are VERY pleased with my 'healing rate' - ENT said I was doing better than most who have my procedures .................... still keeping to soft foods {although I DID just have a couple of sausage/egg/cheese croissants from Jack in the Box}, due to the sutures all over. The oral surgeon checked nerve response today - even though there's still a degree of numbness, I can feel "direction" of a gently-applied cotton swab, 100% correct. Far as pain relief in future - Darvon - it's the part of Darvocet that ISN'T acetaminophen.

I have the need to apologize for my country's "leaders" - recent comments by "the Won" re: the Palestinian 'issue' & Israel's right to exist, are extremely troubling for most Americans- abandoning Israel is not an option; I'm HOPING more eyes are being opened as to the empty suit who now sits in the Oval Office. His insistence on Turkey's being admitted to the EU? Not really "our" business - it's up to the member nations of the EU. {Just like our sovereignty is our {Americans'} business.

Leave y'all with some singers from my youth ....................

Y'all thought I was gonna put post-surgical pictures up, dincha? NOT A CHANCE IN HE##, 'til I'm ~ 6 weeks post-op - there's too much swelling & bruising of the lower areas of my face right now - actually, bruising not so much, but swelling & bandanges that have to remain 'til tomorrow ................. for those not looped in, on Monday, I had a UPPP {uvalo-palato-pharyngoplasty} & genioglossus advancement - the advancement was to alleviate my TMJ, but when I went to the oral surgeon back in August {!!!}, HE was concerned because my airway was 1/3 the diameter it should be, so he sent me to an ENT, who agreed that a UPPP was necessary - problem was, our insurance wanted me to do a trial of a C-PAP - NOT an option {I've not always been real smart in my relationships, prior to the FodGuy - I was involved with a man who found it hilarious to cover my mouth & nose while I was sleeping, then laugh uproariously when I'd awaken in a panic, choking} - so, the docs had to have a peer-to-peer consultation with the insurance's docs, to justify UPPP surgery vs. C-PAP ......................... so, anyhoo, surgery went well {both surgeons expressed their pleasure at my response/recovery}, though I'm STILL not certain sure I didn't sound off like a drunken sailor when I was coming out of the anesthesia - per our progeny & the FodGuy, the cuss words I heard me saying weren't audible to them .................... ;-)
